“Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity…” —Hebrews 6:1

Question to Meditate on

Am I actively growing in Christ, or am I living off the spiritual energy of yesterday?

Faith in Action

Identify one foundational truth you’ve known for years (prayer, Scripture reading, service) and take one fresh, intentional step to grow beyond that foundation today.

Thoughts for Today

Spiritual growth is never accidental. Hebrews 6 opens with a call that is both urgent and encouraging: “Let us go on to maturity.” The author isn’t telling believers to abandon the foundations of the faith, but to stop endlessly rebuilding them. There is a time to learn the basics, and then there is a time to stand on them and grow.

Think of it like a house. No one pours a concrete foundation so they can stare at it for the rest of their lives. The foundation exists so the house can be built—room by room, year by year. In the same way, God calls us not just to start the Christian life but to continue it: to deepen our faith, strengthen our obedience, and mature our understanding of His Word.

Yet many believers get stuck in what once was. They remember the prayers they used to pray, the nearness they once felt, the passion they once held—but today feels spiritually quiet. Hebrews reminds us that yesterday’s manna is not enough for today’s wilderness. God always provides fresh grace for a fresh day.

Growth is not about performance; it is about pursuit. Christ calls you today. Not to recall how you followed Him years ago—but to follow Him now. And here is the good news: you don’t grow by your own strength. The Spirit who began His work in you is the Spirit who matures you.

Take one faithful step today. God will meet you in it.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the foundation You have built in my life. Help me not to rely on yesterday’s strength or yesterday’s obedience. Stir my heart toward fresh faith, fresh desire, and fresh commitment. Lead me into deeper maturity, and give me the courage to take one faithful step forward today. Grow me by Your Spirit and make me more like Jesus.
Amen.
