Points to Ponder – Full VersionWeek 4 — Deborah: Called to Lead
The story of Deborah reminds us that God is never confined by human expectations. During
one of Israel’s darkest and most unstable seasons, God raised up a prophetess
and judge to lead His people with wisdom, courage, and faithfulness.
The Book of Judges repeatedly reveals humanity’s tendency toward compromise, fear, and
spiritual drift. Yet even in the chaos, God remained sovereign. He raised the
right people at the right time to accomplish His purposes.
This week, we are challenged to ask ourselves an important question:
Are we humble enough to recognize whom God is using?
May these reflections help us trust God more deeply, walk more faithfully, and remain
open to His sovereign work in our lives and in His Church.
Monday — God Often Uses the Unexpected
Scripture: Judges 4:4–5
Deborah’s leadership reminds us that God’s plans often surprise us.
While Israel struggled in fear and instability, God raised a faithful servant
who would lead with wisdom and courage.
Human beings tend to place God inside predictable categories. Yet
Scripture repeatedly shows God working through unlikely people, unexpected
circumstances, and surprising methods.
God is never limited by our assumptions.
Have I ever struggled to recognize someone God was
clearly using because they did not fit my expectations?
Encourage someone today whose faithful service may often go unnoticed.
Tuesday — God’s Ways Are Higher Than Ours
Scripture: Isaiah 55:8–9
One of the greatest acts of spiritual maturity is learning to trust God
even when His methods confuse us.
Deborah’s story reminds us that God’s wisdom is infinitely higher than
our own. What surprises us does not surprise Him. What seems unlikely to us may
already be part of His sovereign plan.
Humility begins when we stop assuming God must work according to our
preferences.
Where in my life do I need to trust God’s wisdom more
than my own understanding?
Spend time in prayer surrendering one area of uncertainty or frustration
to God.
Wednesday — Courageous Faith Moves Forward
Scripture: Judges 4:14
Faith is not the absence of fear. Faith is obedience in the presence of
fear.
Deborah demonstrated courageous trust in God’s promises even during
national crisis. She did not lead because circumstances were easy. She led
because God had spoken.
God still calls His people to walk faithfully even when the future feels
uncertain.
Is fear preventing me from obeying something God is
calling me to do?
Take one practical step of obedience today in an area where fear has
delayed action.
Thursday — God Gives Gifts for the Good of the Church
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:4–7
The Holy Spirit distributes gifts according to God’s wisdom and purpose.
Every believer has been entrusted with something valuable for the strengthening
of Christ’s body.
The Church becomes healthiest when faithful servants are encouraged,
equipped, and supported in the work God has called them to do.
Healthy churches celebrate God’s work in others rather than feeling
threatened by it.
Am I using the gifts God has entrusted to me for the good
of others?
Look for one opportunity today to use your gifts to encourage or
strengthen another person.
Friday — Leadership Should Reflect Humility
Scripture: Ephesians 5:25
Biblical leadership is never about power, pride, or control. It is about
sacrificial love, accountability, and service.
Throughout Scripture, God consistently calls leaders to humility.
Authority in God’s Kingdom is not superiority—it is responsibility before God.
Deborah’s leadership reflected courage and wisdom, not self-exaltation.
Do I lead others with humility and servant-heartedness?
Serve someone quietly today without seeking recognition or praise.
Saturday — God Is Still Raising Faithful Servants
Scripture: Joel 2:28–29
God has always delighted in working through ordinary people who are
willing to trust Him.
Deborah’s story is ultimately not about human greatness—it is about
divine faithfulness.
The same God who raised leaders in Israel’s darkest moments is still
working today. He still strengthens, equips, and calls people to serve for His
glory.
May we remain humble enough to recognize His work when we see it.
How can I become more available to God’s leading and
calling?
Pray specifically that God would raise faithful servants in your church,
family, and community.
Abba,
thank You for reminding us that Your wisdom is greater than ours and Your plans
are higher than our understanding. Help us walk humbly before You and recognize
the people You are using for Your glory. Give us courage to obey You faithfully
and hearts that celebrate Your work in others. Raise up faithful servants in
Your Church, and help us become people who trust Your sovereignty more than our
own assumptions. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
